Algistat® complex is a dietary supplement based on Clove Essential Oil (Syzygium aromaticum), known for its antioxidant properties, and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA). The formulation of Algistat® complex is easily absorbed at the intestinal level, allowing its ingredients to contribute to overall well-being by combating free radicals. To promote psychophysical well-being, it is important to be mindful of sources of free radicals such as smoking and poor dietary habits, which can damage organic functions and promote chronic, low-grade inflammation that underlies increased sensitivity to pain in nerve cells. Clove Essential Oil is an excellent antioxidant, while Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients that are vital for the well-being of the nervous system and cognitive functions. In fact, a deficiency in these fatty acids can lead to cognitive and nervous function impairments.

Pain refers to an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Acute pain is characterized by a physiological response to a harmful stimulus and typically lasts for less than four weeks. However, if the duration of the painful sensation exceeds this timeframe, it is referred to as subacute or chronic pain. In the majority of cases, chronic pain is related to the presence of low-grade inflammatory processes underlying a disease that is its main source. Chronic pain can affect various regions, with the most commonly reported being joints (including knees), back, head (migraine), abdominal, and genital pain. In some cases, it may emerge following pharmacological treatments or surgical interventions. Currently, available therapies for pain management include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and opioids, both of which are effective but their chronic use is associated with significant side effects.

The demand for alternatives to traditional pharmacological therapies for pain treatment has greatly driven research into the origin of painful sensations. Regarding the mechanisms of pain perception, the fundamental role of cannabinoid receptors has emerged in recent years. The discovery of specific receptors for cannabinoids (CB1 and CB2) and their endogenous ligands has led to a better understanding of the pharmacological actions of cannabinoids as therapeutic agents in various pain conditions. CB1 receptors are widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous systems, and their activation produces psychotropic effects. CB2 receptors, on the other hand, are mainly expressed by immune cells, act in the periphery, and do not show psychotropic effects. When activated, CB2 receptors can influence the release of chemical messengers, such as cytokines by immune cells. Activation of CB2 receptors induces analgesia, both through direct mechanisms involving primary sensory neurons and through indirect mechanisms mediated by immune cell receptors or other systems, such as the endogenous opioid system. Beta-caryophyllene is a natural ligand for CB2 receptors.

Il DHA (22:6 n-3 or Docosahexaenoic Acid) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid belonging to the omega-3 class. It is naturally found in plant foods, such as algae, and in numerous marine animal species. It is essential for the proper development and functioning of the nervous system. In fact, it is an important component of neuronal membranes, regulating their fluidity, permeability, and viscosity. It plays a key role in modulating neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity, and enzymatically converts into autacoids that counteract the inflammatory process. Due to these reasons, DHA deficiencies are often associated with neurological and inflammatory disorders. Once passed through the intestinal mucosa, DHA is converted into bioactive metabolites with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that inhibit cellular pro-inflammatory metabolic pathways (such as NF-kB) and promote the synthesis of lipoxins, neuroprotectin-D, and resolvins, which are important for the complete resolution of the inflammatory process.

Algistat® complex can be used together with medications and other supplements. However, the use of Algistat® complex is not recommended in conditions of liver or kidney insufficiency, in individuals with coagulation-related disorders, or in conjunction with anticoagulant therapies. It is also not recommended for individuals with fish allergies.

Algistat® complex is not advised during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it is suggested to seek medical advice.
