Clovedin®, an innovative ingredient based on clove and cinnamon essential oils, is ideal for modulating the intestinal microbiota and combating recurrent candidiasis.

Clovedin® is an entirely natural and innovative ingredient for the formulation of dietary supplements with eubiotic activity, created with a patented blend of essential oils from Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) and Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia), in liquid form or adsorbed onto Lapacho bark powder (Tabebuia avellanedae), with added Vitamin A. Based on preclinical scientific studies, Clovedin® has shown antifungal effects on various Candida strains, without being active on Lactobacillus acidophilus, one of the main components of the vaginal microbiota. A clinical trial is currently underway with patients suffering from recurrent candidiasis, conducted in collaboration with centers in Emilia Romagna and Liguria, in Italy.

Clovedin® is indicated for the formulation of dietary supplements to support alterations in the vaginal and intestinal microbiota. You can find it in Clovedin Complex, learn more.

In the innovative formulation of Clovedin®, the blend of clove and cinnamon essential oils is able to pass through the stomach and the first part of the intestine intact. The bioavailability of the essential oils is low, as confirmed by our pharmacokinetic studies, which allows them to directly reach the colon and act on the gut microbiota, where an overgrowth of Candida spp. can occur, responsible for recurrent candidiasis. In this environment, the essential oils exert an antifungal and antibacterial effect, without affecting Lactobacillus acidophilus, one of the main beneficial components of the vaginal microbiota. This ensures the effectiveness of Clovedin® and the protection of normal intimate balance.

Clovedin® is an innovative plant-based raw material for the formulation of dietary supplements. It contains essential oil of Cinnamon and Clove with the addition of vitamin A. It provides valuable support for the balance of antioxidant defenses and the well-being of mucous membranes, making it highly useful for managing disorders that may arise in the case of intestinal and vaginal mycosis, including recurring ones.

The essential oils of Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia J. Presl.) and Clove (Syzygium aromaticum Merr. et L.M. Perry) have shown synergistic action in our in vitro experiments in combating the proliferation of 18 strains belonging to the Candida genus, including those resistant to major antifungal agents, without altering the vitality of lactobacilli, which are of fundamental importance for the well-being of the vaginal microbiota. The unique formulation of the product allows the two essential oils to bypass the stomach and act in the colon, where alterations of the intestinal microbiota, including the excessive proliferation of Candida spp., commonly occur.

Vitamin A is an essential fat-soluble micronutrient, and its food sources include both preformed vitamin A (mainly retinol and retinyl esters) in animal-derived foods and its precursors in plant-derived foods, such as carotenoids. Its importance lies in its involvement in physiological processes related to vision, as well as in stimulating tissue repair, including epithelial and mucosal tissues, including genital mucosa.

The essential oils in Clovedin® are in a gastro-resistant formulation, which allows them to not be absorbed by the body and to be released directly into the colon. Here, they help promote digestive functions. The balance of digestive functions is directly related to the balance of the intestinal microbiota. The excessive proliferation of opportunistic pathogenic microorganisms, including Candida spp., can lead to imbalances and the development of various pathologies.

Based on scientific evidence, the essential oil of Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia J. Presl.) and Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) are considered safe. Both are recognized as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA and EFSA.

The essential oils of Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia J. Presl) and Clove (Syzygium aromaticum Merr. et L.M. Perry) undergo a microencapsulation process, followed by blending with Vitamin A.

Clovedin® is GMO-free. It does not contain, derive from, or consist of Genetically Modified Organisms. Clovedin® complies with Regulations EC 1829/2003 and 1830/2003. Specifically, Regulation (EC) No. 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2003 on genetically modified food and feed, and Regulation (EC) No. 1830/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2003 concerning the traceability and labeling of genetically modified organisms and the traceability of food and feed products produced from genetically modified organisms.

The essential oil of cloves comes from Indonesia, and the essential oil of cinnamon comes from China. All the raw materials are processed in Italy.

After the promising results of the in vitro study, the research process is continuing, and a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study is currently underway on patients suffering from recurrent candidiasis, in collaboration with various specialists operating in centers in Emilia-Romagna and Liguria, in Italy.

The formulation of Clovedin® is covered by patent no. IT202100017054A1.
